[LIST] 6 Chinese Idols Who Have Left The K-Pop Industry

1. Han Geng (Hankyung), formerly of Super Junior
Han Geng left Super Junior in 2009, four years after debuting as a member of SM Entertainment's first megagroup.

During Super Junior's debut era, Han Geng faced visa restrictions that kept him from performing on all Korean television channels with Super Junior. As a solution, Han Geng wore a mask and hat to hide his appearance and was mistaken as Super Junior's backup dancer until another member of Super Junior, Heechul, unmasked Han Geng mid performance to raise light to the situation.

The visa restrictions were later eased, but the mishandling of Han Geng's visa became a part of his 2009 contract termination lawsuit against SM Entertainment. Based on unfair treatment, illegal "slave contract" conditions, discrimination, and being forced into certain situations against his will, the Seoul Central District Court ruled in favor of Han Geng's claims in 2010. SM Entertainment announced a plan to appeal the decision, and in 2011 the two sides came to a mutual agreement and ended all legally binding contracts.

Han Geng has since pursued an acting and singing career in China, and appeared in the Hollywood film "Transformers: Age of Extinction" in 2014.

 

2. Wu Yi Fan (Kris), formerly of EXO (EXO-M)
The former leader of EXO's Mandarin-speaking subgroup EXO-M left SM Entertainment in May 2014, two years after debuting with EXO. The same law firm that represented Han Geng took on Kris's case, with similar reasoning including SM Entertainment's disregard of basic human rights and overworking Kris.

In an interview on Chinese television in February, Kris said that being separated from his family was also a motivator to leave EXO.

The lawsuit is ongoing, and Kris has since pursued an acting and singing career in China. Kris appeared at the 2015 Met Gala in New York City, and modeled on Vogue China with Kendall Jenner.

3. Luhan, formerly of EXO (EXO-M)
In November 2014, Luhan followed in Kris's footsteps and left EXO after filing a contract termination lawsuit against SM Entertainment. Luhan also used the same lawyers as Kris and Hangeng, and claimed that there was disparity in treatment between the members of EXO-M and EXO's Korean language subgroup, EXO-K.

The lawsuit is ongoing, and Luhan has since pursued an acting and singing career in China. Lohan won multiple awards in China in 2014 and 2015, revealing his immense popularity.

 

4. Tao, formerly of EXO (EXO-M)
In April, Chinese media reported that Tao left EXO. SM Entertainment denied the claims, but shortly after Tao's father spoke to the Chinese media and revealed that he had asked Tao to leave EXO due to his son's ailing health allegedly due to overwork under SM Entertainment.

Tao has been absent from EXO's promotions since the release of the group's album "EXODUS" in March.

On July 13, Tao announced that he would make a solo debut in China, although his future in EXO is still unclear. SM Entertainment's latest statement said that the two sides were still in discussion.

5-6. Daeryong and Soryong of TASTY
On July 15, the twin duo TASTY announced that it was leaving Woollim Entertainment to pursue a career in China. The two sides had a public back and forth, where Woollim claimed that TASTY was not in communication with the company, while TASTY claimed that they spoke to the company and left after they were unfairly treated.

TASTY debuted under Woollim Entertainment in 2012, and last made a Korean comeback in 2013. In 2014, the pair released a single in China.

[NEWS] 5 Actresses Who Were Born In The 1990s

While the Korean media industry lacks actresses in their 20s, five actresses, Park Shin Hye, Baek Jin Hee, Ko Ah Ra, YoonA, and Jin Sae Yeon, seem to be the top actresses in their 20s. All five of them have starred as the main character in a drama.  

Park Shin Hye especially has been filming TV mini series dramas for over ten years, having debuted at an early age.  

Ko Ah Ra, who starred in the popular drama "Reply 1994" last year, is starring in the new SBS Monday Tuesday drama called "You're All Surrounded," which is going to premiere soon. 

Actress Jin Sae Young, right after filming the KBS 2 TV drama "Inspiring Generation," is going to star in the new SBS Wednesday Thursday drama called "Dr. Stranger." 

Actress and singer YoonA, who is a member of the girl group Girls Generation, has starred in the popular "Prime Minister And I." 

Lastly, actress Baek Jin Hee is going to film the new MBC Monday Tuesday drama "Triangle."

[LIST] KDramaStars lists their 'Top 10 Breakout Stars Of 2013'

 

2013 was a year in which many kdrama actors got a chance to shine, but a few shone just a little brighter and deserve to be nominated for breakout stars of the year.

1. Without a doubt Kim Woo Bin is the year's biggest breakout star. The model-turned-actor became a trending topic as Park Heung Soo in the high school drama "School 2013" and then rocketed to fame as the vulnerable villainous Choi Young Do in "The Heirs." This year he also appeared in the film "Friend 2" and his commercial bookings have doubled.

2. His "School 2013" co-star and fellow model Lee Jong Suk also had a great year. He played the clairvoyant Park Soo Ha in the hit drama "I Hear Your Voice," then played a competitive swimmer in the film "No Breathing." He also had a role in the award-winning film "The Face Reader."

3. Actor Jung Woo became a fan favorite in the nostalgic drama "Reply 1994."  He has appeared in dramas and films before, most notably playing Seo Jin Wook earlier this year in "You're The Best Lee Soon Shin" but it was his portrayal of the character Trash that proved his most endearing to date.

4. Choi Jin Hyuk has also acted for a while but it was his role as the mountain spirit Wol Ryung and Lee Seung Gi's gumiho dad that encouraged viewers to take him more seriously. After that he delivered a star turn as Lee Min Ho's brother Kim Won in "The Heirs."

5. Lee Da Hee so convincingly played Seo Do Yeon, the prosecutor with a secret, in "I Hear Your Voice" that she quickly snagged a role in one of the year's other memorable dramas "Secrets," playing Ji Sung's not-so-nice rich fiancée.

6. It has also been a good year for Lee Yeon Hee. She played Lee Seung Gi's mom in "Gu Family Book," was engaged to Taecyeon in "Marriage Blue" and now stars in a new drama "Miss Korea" about an ordinary girl that a village will transform into a beauty contestant

7. Ha Yeon Soo made a splashy debut this year. She appeared in two dramas, "Monstar" and "Potato Star" and her first film "Very Ordinary Couple." In "Monstar she played transfer student Min Se Yi, who helps calm the tempestuous Yoon  Seol Chan, played by Beast's Yong Jun Hyung. In "Potato Star" she played neighbor Ha Yeon Soo.

8. Child actress Lee Chae Mi deserves a breakout award for her work in "Two Weeks" and "One Warm Word." Maybe being an adorable child is not really work for the actress but she is so heartbreakingly sweet in "Two Weeks" as Lee Jun Ki's daughter and so smart in "One Warm Word" as Han Hye Jin's daughter, you can see the adult actors struggling to contain their "awwww" expressions.

9. and 10. The award for breakout couple of the year has to go to f(x)'s Krystal Jung as Lee Bon A and CNBlue's Kang Min Hyuk as Yoon Chan Young in "The Heirs." These k-pop crossover stars attracted plenty of positive attention for their sweet interactions.

[LIST] Top 9 Korean Dramas with Highest Ratings in 2013

 
In the end-of-the-year round-ups, there have been many votes cast for best drama. Both critics and fans have had their say. But when it comes to just ratings, the weekend dramas came out way ahead. Whether this has to do with the fact that some Korean viewers only watch dramas on the weekend or the longer-running weekend dramas attract a more loyal audience, it's hard to say, but they did earn a higher percentage of ratings than the weekday shows.

In first place for 2013 was the KBS 2TV drama "My Daughter Seo Young. " It was the drama with the highest viewer ratings this year, according to Nielsen Korea, earning average ratings of 40.7 percent between Sept. 2012 and March 2013. The 50-episode drama, starring Lee Bo Young, Lee Sang Yoon, Park Hae Jin and Chun Ho Jin, focused on the broken relationship between Seo Young and her father.

The weekend dramas "The Wang Family" and "Cheer Up Mr. Kim" tied for second place with ratings of 28.5 percent. The Wang Family, which included Jang Yong, Kim Hae Sook, Oh Hyun Kyung and Jo Sung Ha among its huge cast, focused on the problems of a family's successive generations.  "Cheer Up Mr. Kim," starring Yang Jin Woo, Choi Jung Yoon, Wang Ji Hye and Kim Dong Wan, told the story of a man who worked as a housekeeper to support his four children.

Among the weekday dramas, the top winner is the Korean-American co-production "The Heirs," which started out slow but reached 25.6 percent in the ratings, with an overall average of 16.7 percent. The drama's stars Lee Min Ho, Park Shin Hye and Kim Woo Bin attracted a large and loyal fan base.

Next up was the paranormal courtroom drama "I Hear Your Voice," starring Lee Bo Young, Yoon Sang Hyun and Lee Jong Suk. The drama reached 24.1 percent in the ratings with an overall average of 18.8 percent.

Next came "The Master's Sun," starring So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin. The love story between a woman who sees ghosts and the man who can make them go away reached 21.8 percent of the viewers with an average of 17.2 percent. 

"Good Doctor," starring Joo Won and Moon Chae Won reached 21.5 percent with an overall average of 18.8 percent.

The fantasy saeguk "Gu Family Book," starring Lee Seung Gi and Suzy, reached 19.1 percent of the viewers and averaged 16.1 percent.

A few more dramas also deserve honorable mention. "Secrets," also known as "Secret Love," earned 18.9 percent but only averaged 12.7 percent. It starred Ji Sung, Hwang Jung Eum and Bae Soo Bin. 

The winner of the Kdramastars poll for best drama, "Missing You," reached 17.9 percent, with an average of 10 percent. The drama starred Park Yoochun and Yoon Eun Hye.

And the year ended on a promising note for two new dramas. The 50-episode weekday historical drama "Empress Ki," which began in October, reached ratings of 20.2 percent by its 13th episode. Also "You Who Came From The Stars" broke 20 percent in its first few episodes.
